An appeal has been made to the people of Stranraer to help with fundraising efforts for this year’s foreworks events in the town.
The current Stranraer and District Community Foreworls Display (SADCFD)committee held a pre-AGM meeting on Monday to discuss intentions regarding this year’s display.
And it was decided the current team couldn’t commit the necessary time to fundraising throughout the year due to family and work commitments.
A statement said: “As is well known, we are all working people, most of us with young families, and it is with regret we all intend to take a back seat in the fundraising events required for this year’s display. We will continue to provide practical assistance with the running of the main event, but we believe it is time for new faces to step up and bring new fundraising ideas to the committee.
“We ask that everyone who enjoyed last year’s display, and who wants to see the event continue this year and beyond, considers coming to the AGM and becoming part of the new team driving forward the display to even greater success in the future.
“The current committee has worked hard for two years and would hate to see the event stop, but we need more help.”
Volunteers have already come forward for a fundraising committee, which would be separate to the event organisation committee. This will have to be ratified at the AGM which is this Sunday, 25 January at 7pm in the Swan Inn.
