Fergusson secures Shambellie maintenance pledge

At Question Time in the Scottish Parliament today (Thursday 5th June) Galloway and West Dumfries MSP Alex Fergusson secured a pledge from the Scottish Government that it would publish the long awaited report in the very near future and take urgent steps to cut the grass and maintain the grounds until Shambellie’s future is decided.

Speaking after the question session Mr Fergusson said:“I am delighted that the Scottish Government has responded so swiftly to my plea that the report on what options exist for Shambellie, which was originally scheduled for publication last November, be published without further delay. The Minister assured me that it will be published online within a matter of days and that a public meeting will be held in the area as part of the consultation on Shambellie’s future. That is good news.

“However, I am even more pleased that the Minister has recognised the Scottish Government’s duty to maintain the property and grounds to a decent standard, and has undertaken to have that maintenance carried out as a matter of urgency. It is disgraceful that the property has been neglected up to this point, but I welcome the Ministers assurance that this will now be addressed.”
