Jim Hume, Scottish Liberal Democrat MSP for South Scotland, has said that today marks a sad day for the fire service across Dumfries and Galloway as Dumfries fire control room shuts its doors.
Mr Hume said: “Today marks a sad day for our fire service locally and for the staff who lost their jobs. The SNP have been determined pull key emergency services away from our rural communities at the expense of local jobs and potentially community safety.
“The SNP’s sweeping fire service reforms mean that calls will be handled in Renfrewshire.
“The SNP are systematically doing their best to uproot our emergency services, losing valuable local knowledge and intelligence in the meantime.
“Police counters, courts, and fire and police control rooms have all been closed across the region under the SNP’s watch. This gradual degradation of key services sets a dangerous precedent both in terms of community safety and employment.”
