THE Catstrand Community, Arts and Visitor Centre in New Galloway recently received funding to source a locally produced bird table for the venue’s garden area.

Centre manager Rachel Thompson contacted Dalry Secondary School and commissioned the craft and design department to produce this important item of garden furniture for the Catstrand.

Two pupils, Jamie Bartholomew and Ruaraidh Curran, with assistance from teacher Callum Murray enthusiastically took on the project and have created a bird table worthy of the venue and it now stands in a prominent place for visitors to see and admire.

Commenting on the excellent work done by Jamie and Ruaraidh, Rachel said: “Not only were we delighted to receive funding to have a new bird table created but to be able to have had the work undertaken by the school pupils using locally sourced materials was ideal. We are extremely happy with the finished item which has already been much admired by our visitors and staff.”

The design has been influenced by the lines and material of the building at the Catstrand. The actual work carried out will form part of the boys’ craft and design qualification.
