Cycling police cross border in mammoth challenge

A group of Police Scotland officers from Dumfries and Galloway are making headway on a 900-mile cycle from John O’Groats to Lands End for charity.

The six serving officers - DC Paul Murphy, DC Garry Mitchell, PC Scott Nicholson, PC Stuart Wren, DS Craig Nicolson and PC Russell McClung – are joined by retired Sergeant John Murdoch and three other friends – Stuart Richardson, Raymond Scott and Dennis Bell for the John O’Groats to Lands End challenge raising funds for cystic fibrosis research.

The novice cyclists hope to raise thousands for Just Gene Therapy , a charity chosen as Stranraer PC Stuart Wren’s six year old daughter Chloe suffers from cystic fibrosis and the group wanted to show their continued support to their colleague.

They set off from John O’Groats on May 23 and crossed the border into England via Dumfries on Tuesday of this week.

Stuart said: “If you can donate anything at all to our cause it would obviously make all the difference to this research and hopefully lives like young Chloe’s.”
