A drunk man who decided to drive himself home when “substantially over the limit” was disqualified from driving for 21 months at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Monday.
Jonathan McGill, 20, of 23 Marine Gardens, Stranraer, admitted driving his car in the Port Rodie area of Stranraer on September 24 last when almost twice the legal limit.
Procurator fiscal depute Lindsay Spence said McGill was stopped by police on a routine patrol some 500 yards from his home. The officers noted that McGill smelled of alcohol. A test showed him to have 66 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 35.
Defending, agent Paul Feeney said McGill had planned to take a taxi but as the queue was long he “stupidly” decided to drive.
Sheriff Kenneth Robb also fined the accused £550.
