A Stranraer man who fraudulently claimed income support, housing benefit and council tax benefit of nearly £14,000 had his sentence adjourned for reports.
Brian Allan, 50, of 14 Antrim Avenue, appeared at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Tuesday to admit that, between December 22, 2009, and March 16, 2011, he failed to give notice to the Department of Works and Pensions and Dumfries and Galloway Council that he was in receipt of an occupational pension from the Strathclyde pension scheme.
Procurator fiscal William McKay said the matter had come to light after investigations by the Department of Works and Pensions. The accused’s solicitor, Paul Feeney, said his client was trying to pay back Dumfries and Galloway Council.
Allan will return to the court on February 14 for sentencing after Sheriff Kenneth Robb called for reports.
