Council say Sorbie Hall nedds over £100,000 spend

A Sorbie residents group hoping to take over the running of their village hall for community use will need to invest over £100,000 in the building, according to the local authority.

The future of Sorbie Village Hall will be discussed at Wigtown Area Committee’s monthly meeting next Wednesday in Stranraer.

In a report to elected members, officers from Dumfries and Galloway Council state: “The condition survey for Sorbie Village Hall will be reviewed, where it is estimated that investment required is more that £100,000.”

At a public meeting in the village at the beginning of the month, 25 residents attended leading to the formation of a residents and users group who are now investigating the viability of taking on the hall. Support would be given by council officers on the process involved. Sorbie residents have a choice of venues in the village as the former school is another option, although user groups say they would prefer the hall.
