Community safety team profile must be improved
An elected member expressed his concern this week that many Wigtownshire residents were unaware of the local authority's community safety team.
In a survey, 45 per cent of those taking part said they had never heard of them.
Mid Galloway Councillor Alistair Geddes asked council officers, at Wednesday’s Area Committee meeting, how to raise the team’s profile, suggesting that social media was “a phenomenal tool to get the message out.”
Officers replied saying they had issues regular press releases about the community safety team’s work and used the council’s social media streams to reach a bigger audience.
The community safety team deal with complaints like dog fouling (the number one complaint across the region), fly tipping, parking issues, anti-social behaviour and noisy neighbour issues. The number of dog fouling fixed penalty notices issues has increased 67 per cent in a year. This is attributed to information being received through the strictly confidential helpline at 030 33 33 3000.
