The new HM Coastguard’s helicopter paid a visit to Stranraer on Saturday to allow the crews in Portpatrick and Stranraer to take a look. The state of the art Sikorsky S-92 Search and Rescue helicopter in red and while HM Coastguard livery will be based at Prestwick Airport ready to begin operations in January.
A spokesperson from HM Coastguard said: “The Coastguard aircraft is based at Prestwick.The crew and aircraft have been in the area since November, undertaking essential crew training in addition to familiarisation training with search and rescue partners. They were in Stranraer on Saturday to train with a search and rescue partner organisation.”
The helicopter is equipped with the latest search and rescue technology.”
