Celebrate life with Purple Thistle Ball

Get your best gear on and join in with a ball to celebrate life and raise cash for Cancer Research UK next month.

The second Purple Thistle Ball takes place on Saturday 7 June at The Chocolate Factory, Twynholm and follow’s a similar event last year in Wigtown where over £10,000 was raised for the charity.

The celebratory occasion is organised by Cora Sharp from Wigtown with the support of her family and friends and comes after she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2011.

During her treatment, Cora was looking for a way to give something back to Cancer Research UK and came up with the idea of the Purple Thistle Ball. Now, she’s inviting you, your family and friends to join her for the second event this summer.

Cora said: “Since the first Purple Thistle Ball, I have had two more birthdays and, what’s more, have helped my children James (now 8), Molly (now 5) and husband Paul (whose age I’d get into trouble for revealing) to celebrate two more birthdays. I have seen my daughter start school and my son play his recorder at the Galloway Music Festival. I have watched their school concert and the tooth fairy has visited – more than once. These events are not unusual; they are special family events that happen to everyone. For me though, they bring a sense of achievement and gratitude that I have been lucky enough to see them for myself.

“The whole event is a celebration of life - the evening begins with a champagne reception and three-course meal, followed by an auction and dancing, with music from The Sensational Mary Barclay Band. I can’t wait to get dressed up and hit the dance floor with my family and friends, and I hope you’ll join us too – we promise an unforgettable experience.”

More than one in three people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some stage in their lives. Money raised through events like The Purple Thistle Ball funds the work of thousands of scientists, doctors and nurses who are dedicated to saving more lives by preventing, controlling and curing all cancers.

Thanks to Cancer Research UK’s work, more people are surviving cancer than ever before. Survival rates have doubled over the last 40 years and the charity’s work has been at the heart of that progress.

There’s still much work to do to ensure that more people survive the disease and that we celebrate many more parties together so please join us for The Purple Thistle Ball because united we are stronger than cancer.

Tickets are £25 each and are available by contacting Cora on 01988 403242.
