Galloway Mountain Rescue were called out after a car was found apparently abandoned in Richorn Wood, south of Dalbeattie at about 2.30pm on Monday.

The search, involving 19 mountain rescue personnel and assisted by Forestry Commission

rangers and a SARDA search and rescue dog, was instigated by Police Scotland.

Team Leader Mike McCann, who coordinated the search, said: “The police were anxious to trace the driver of the car to ensure he was safe and well. We carried out a systematic line search in the forest working out from the location where the car was found. We stood down the search at 8.30pm and the police will continue their

enquiries to trace the driver.”
