Can you help ENABLE?
IN 1979 at a meeting organised by Mrs Pate at her home, Willowbank, in Old Minnigaff, a branch of The Scottish Society for the Mentally Handicapped was formed. The name was changed to ENABLE at a later date.
Their main aim was to campaign for services for vulnerable people in Dumfries and Galloway.
Since then things have improved with the Activity and Resource Centre, respite care and much more help for people with learning difficulties.
Over the years ENABLE have raised many thousands of pounds mainly spent locally. Nowadays, the emphasis is providing social activities. They run a social club in the ARC, organise day outings, Christmas parties, support people going on holiday and try to make life better for those who need help in the community.
AS some of the members involved, who joined in 1979, are still serving, they need some new blood.
Anyone interested in helping with this worthwhile work could come along the Newton Stewart Activity and Resource Centre to the annual general meeting on May 2.
