THE former partner of a Newton Stewart woman found dead in her home has been charged with culpable homicide.
Alan Hedley, 43, from the town has also been charged with assault almost a year after the death of Wendy Kelly.
Hedley appeared on petition in Stranraer Sheriff Court on Monday but made no plea or declaration and the case was continued for further enquiry by the Crown.
Mum of three Wendy, 32, was found in an unconscious and unresponsive condition at a house in Hillview Terrace, York Road on 17 May 2010. She was taken by ambulance to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary where she died later that day. Cause of death was attributed to a head injury.
Detective Inspector Mark Hollis said: “I am satisfied that my team have conducted a very thorough and detailed investigation in relation to this death. he inquiry has been very complex and it has taken a great deal of time and investment to uncover a large amount of very relevant information about Wendy’s lifestyle, her movements, and the circumstances which led to her death.
“We have been liaising closely with Wendy’s family throughout this inquiry to assist them through what must be a very stressful time. We are grateful for the patience and support they have given to us, and are also thankful for the support and cooperation of the Newton Stewart public.”
