Bookings for this year’s Newton Stewart Walking Festival have now opened as organisers look forward to the 12th year of the award-winning event.

The full programme for the event has been unveiled on the fully refreshed festival website, with many return visitors snapping up their walk places early.

The festival, which will run from Friday 9th to Thursday 15th May, will feature more than 30 guided walks and other events. It will be the first since the festival was awarded best nature based tourism experience in Central and South West Scotland in the 2013 VisitScotland Thistle Awards.

Chair of the organising committee Joan Mitchell, said: “Once again we are delighted to be showcasing the best walking opportunities across Galloway as well as providing a range of interesting and informative evening talks. Our brand new website helps to show off all that the area has to offer the walker. We are looking forward to welcoming old friends back to the area as well as those who are joining us for the first time.”

“We have added a number of brand new routes to the week-long festival programme and have gathered together another impressive range of experts to explain more about the history, geology, flora and fauna and wildlife of the area.”

Bookings can be made online at, by calling the festival booking office on 01671 404500, or by calling in personally to the WRDC Business Centre in Queen Street, Newton Stewart. Brochures will also soon be available from a selection of local outlets.
