THIS year’s special guest at Wigtown Show will undoubtedly cause a lot of excitement among Wigtownshire’s poultry fans.
Organiser of the show’s popular Poultry Tent, Janice Houghton-Wallace,revealed exclusively to The Galloway Gazette this week that none other than ‘Big Dave’ himself, the world’s most famous Muscovy Duck, was coming next Wednesday to Bladnoch Park to present the prizes in the tent.
Big Dave recently sold for £1500 and is on the cusp of being entered in the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s most expensive duck.
After Big Dave’s breeder Graham Hicks was forced to sell the stock of his Waterfowl World down in Shropshire, Janice got a consortium together to buy the duck. But knowing that Graham loved the duck, thinking that Dave was the best duck he had ever bred, Janice and her backers promptly gave him back to Graham as they didn’t want the devoted pair to be split up. Big Dave has now got a partner, Big Doris, and they are the proud parents of nine ducklings.
A quacking good tail, wouldn’t you agree?
