Ballot papers missing from postal vote packs

HUNDREDS of postal voters receiving packs ahead of next Thursday’s local council elections have found their ballot papers missing.

A council spokesman said: “The Returning Officer for Dumfries and Galloway Council, Alex Haswell, has been alerted to an issue with a small proportion of postal voting packs which are being received by voters this morning.

“In total 22,080 postal voting packs were issued by an external contractor and due to an error a total of 890 packs issued do not contain ballot papers.

“The Returning Officer is able to identify all of the people affected by this error and will be writing to them today to explain how his team is dealing with this issue.”

Voters affected will receive a new postal voting pack within the next two working days, they will have one week to return their ballot paper and they will not lose their vote.
