The Galloway Astronomical Society has been saved after a new committee stepped forward last weekend.
At the society’s AGM at The Belted Galloway in Newton Stewart last Saturday, chairman Robin Bellerby stood down and handed over the baton to Anthony Berretti, with Doug Snell as secretary and Alex Creel as treasurer.
Eighteen people turned out for the meeting, bringing huge relief to those who had feared the society would be forced to fold with equipment being gifted to other groups.
The society are participating in the BBC’s forthcoming Stargazing Live in January and expect to stage their own event on December 8 - the anniversary of Patrick Moore’s death.
