A local event has been awarded the title of Britain’s best arts and crafts market.

Pretty Nostalgic magazine held a public online poll to find the nation’s finest markets and Galloway-based event Lady Magpie and Me gained the most votes to win the title.

Lady Magpie and Me is organised by local designer/maker Leah Halliday who is based in Dumfries, but the markets are held all over.

Leah and the team hope by gaining national recognition for their fair that they will encourage visitors from further afield to take a trip to Dumfries and Galloway and enjoy all the fun of the fair.

The next Lady Magpie and Me Spring Fair will take place in Castle Douglas in the town hall on 23 March from 10-4pm. It’s £1 entry and free for kids.

There will be 40 stalls to peruse over two floors and includes a whole host of sellers including designer/makers, vintage sellers and artisan foods from both locally-based producers and beyond. There will also be the opportunity for visitors to take part in some crafting or be inspired by floristry demonstrations by Blooms Florist. Local trio, Murray, Stewart and Burns will be performing live and serenading visitors on the day.

And if shoppers need a little refreshment in between browsing they can enjoy a handmade cake or two at Mrs Green’s pop-up tea room. She’ll be getting out her best china and serving up tasty treats and tea in style. More details of who will be there on the day will be posted on our facebook page
