A painter from Dumfries and Galloway is helping aspiring artists to explore the creativity inside them.
Victor Henderson is a Scottish watercolour painter popular for his loose large brush work on hot-pressed paper. He runs weekend courses and day workshops for small groups.
At the beginning of June, he will run the first of his summer weekend art courses at Ferndale Studio in the beautiful conservation village of Durisdeer, near Thornhill. These are for small groups of any ability.
The day begins with coffee and home baking and then it’s hands on, exploring the particular character of water-based medium on hot-pressed paper using a variety of methods: pouring, blowing, mark making, and resistance techniques such as salt, alcohol and wax.
“It is a special skill to balance teaching/allowing self-development/sharing artistic experience, and Victor manages this brilliantly. This, plus the great location and beautiful catering, meant I had a lovely weekend,” said Sian from Edinburgh after Victor’s last course at Ferndale.
Courses run on June 1 and 2, 8 and 9.
A selection of Victor’s work will be on show during the Spring Fling weekend, May 25 to 27, in Carronbridge hall, where the artist will also be there to talk about his work and answer any questions.
