Appeal to trace family of airman

An appeal is being made to try to trace the surviving relatives of an airman who died during the Second World War.

Paul Kurn contact the Gazette to ask if anyone knows the family of Frank Elliott.

Mr Kurn said: “I am trying to trace the living relatives of Frank Shackleton Elliott, who was killed with his crew in January 1945 when their Lancaster was shot down over Holland. A new memorial and dedication service will take place on May 4, in Holland, at the site of the crash.

“I know Frank had a brother, Edwin Elliott, who was married to Joy and that they lived in Scotland. I have looked on and found an E Elliott and J M Elliott living in Newton Stewart but there is no telephone number listed on BT.

“This is obviously a long shot but can anyone shed light on the possibility that this may be the couple I am looking for, as the service is getting very near now and I would like to give relatives the chance to attend.”

If anyone has any information, please write to The Galloway Gazette, 71 Victoria Street, Newton Stew3art, DG8 6NL, or email
