Everyone has a Christmas tree during the festive season - but have you ever wondered why?
Primary school pupils from around the region visited the champion Christmas tree growers at Garrocher Tree Farm near Creetown this week to learn about tree growth and history, the environment and sustainability.
Minnigaff, Penninghame and St Ninian’s pupils wrapped up warm for sessions at the farm which culminated with fun in the muddy fields watching a spot of tree harvesting.
They also helped to keep an eye out for Rudolph, one of Santa’s wayward reindeer.
The sessions are now part of the British Christmas Tree Growers Association’s educational pack.
Garrocher supplied the Christmas tree to 10 Downing Street in 2012 and will be selling trees from Newton Stewart market, where you may also have seen a giant Santa floating about lately!
