Galloway Activity Centre has beaten tough competition to win a prestigious regional tourism award.

The centre, near Parton on the shores of Loch Ken, was named ‘Best Outdoor/Adventure Experience’ in the Central South West regional finals of the Scottish Thistle Awards held on Friday 7th November.

The Scottish Thistle Awards recognise success, excellence and quality in Scotland’s tourism industry across a range different categories.

The Best Outdoor/Adventure Experience award, sponsored by Forestry Commission Scotland, was presented to Galloway Activity Centre at the regional finals ceremony at Hampden Park, Glasgow.

Other Dumfries and Galloway businesses and events attending the ceremony as Scottish Thistle Awards regional finalists included Kerr Cottage B&B from Dalbeattie (Most Hospitable B&B/Guest House Award category), Solway View Holidays, Kirkcudbright (Best Holiday Accommodation Award category), Hetland Garden Centre near Dumfries (Best Informal Eating Experience Award category), Wigtown Book Festival (Best Festival/Event category).

The winners of the regional finals will now go on to represent the Central and South West region at the glittering national final of The Scottish Thistle Awards at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow on 5 March, 2015.

Paula McDonald, VisitScotland Regional Director, said: “Richard and his team at Galloway Activity Centre recently celebrated their 25th year in business and this Thistle Award is a much deserved tribute to how truly incredible their product, hospitality and team are.

“They go to great lengths to continue growing the product offering and this means that all who go to Loch Ken have a fantastic experience delivered by their dedicated and passionate team.”

A total of 670 businesses were nominated for Scottish Thistle Awards in 2014 with 555 businesses entering the regional heats.
