Activities for disabled children

Dumfries and Galloway Council supports families who have children with disabilities during what can be a long summer holiday by providing six summer activity schemes throughout the region.

The schemes help the disabled children to take part in activities they may otherwise be unable to do, and the emphasis is on having fun. The schemes are well thought of as positive experiences for the all the young people aged from five to 18 years and the council is keen to see this continue.

Many of the youngsters’ attention spans can be limited. Therefore, the schemes have found out over the years that taster sessions of around one hour are best. These build and raise a young person’s confidence by participating in something different or new for them. The hope is that they may like to continue to participate again in future.

The council is hoping to offer many more choices of things for the children in take part in. Anyone interested can contact Angela McNay on 01387 273950 or
