The 7stanes Mountain Biking Community Interest Company (CIC) has hired a leading Scottish sponsorship agency to help develop commercial relations with prominent brands and businesses within the UK.

Maximise Sport, based in Glasgow, will assist 7stanes CIC, who run seven mountain biking centres in Dumfries & Galloway and The Scottish Borders. Maximise Sport currently manage Scottish Cycling legend Graeme Obree and having worked across an extensive range of sponsorship platforms for some of the world’s leading brands, they will target potential key sponsors to help build revenue and deliver a sustainable business model for 7stanes.

With 11.8 million mountain bike owners in the UK, mountain biking has seen a significant rise in interest over the last 10 years and the 7stanes attract more than 400,000 annual biking visitors from all over the world providing a substantial economic contribution of £11m to the South of Scotland economy. The 7stanes brand attracts bikers with a combination of quality trails, stunning scenery and great local infrastructure which all contribute to provide an unbeatable mountain biking experience with around 40% of visitors staying overnight.

The 7stanes have grown in scale and popularity and are now one of the most successful mountain bike destinations in Europe referred to as an international mountain biking “mecca” in Lonely Planet’s 1000 Ultimate Adventures (2013). They target the family market as well as mountain bike enthusiasts who are looking to test their skills on more extreme trails, with more than 400km of trails provided from centres located in Ae, Dalbeatie, Glentress, Glentrool, Kirroughtree, Innerleithen and Newcastleton.

Barbara Elborn, Director on behalf of 7stanes said: “The 7stanes now attract over 400,000 visitors annually, playing an increasingly important role in delivering economic benefit to communities across Southern Scotland. Free access to the trails means they appeal to a wide market, from the elite mountain bike user to family day- trippers.

“We wish to capitalise upon the strengths of the 7stanes brand and work with commercial partners who will help drive our marketing forward to maintain the 7Stanes position as a world class visitor attraction.

Maximise Sport bring experience and expertise to the table and we are very excited about working with this leading sponsorship agency to achieve our ambitions for mountain biking in this part of Scotland.”

Charlie Milarvie, Managing Director of Maximise Sport added: “I am delighted and excited to have the opportunity to work with 7stanes CIC. 7stanes has all the right credentials to generate and develop strong relations with the commercial sector. I am looking forward to identify the best commercial partners, those who share the vision of the stake holders in continuing to develop a world class mountain biking destination.

“7stanes CIC has already proven to be an innovative business model and the opportunity now exists to build a brand with strong commercial focus. The values represented in 7stanes and the connections to such a powerful market segment will prove an unbeatable lure in the search to identify and recruit partners who aspire to play a key role in the development of 7stanes.”
