56-year old arrested on murder charge following Newton Stewart death

A 56-year old man has been arrested in connection with the suspicious death of another man in Newton Stewart.

The man is sue to appear at Stranraer Sheriff Court on Monday, 17 October charged with murder.

Police were alerted to a disturbance at a house on McGregor Drive in Minnigaff at 12.15am on Saturday. On their arrival they discovered a local 40 year old man with serious injuries. Despite receiving First Aid at the scene the man succumbed to his injuries and died.

Detective Inspector Mark Hollis said: “Everything points to this being an isolated incident. We believe the suspect and victim knew each other and we have now arrested a man in relation to the death.

“We would remind the public that these types of crimes are extremely rare in the region. A number of witnesses have already been traced and we are grateful for the response we have received from the public however we are keen for the strong support in the local community to continue.
