Police Scotland report that since the start of the festive drink driving campaign two weeks ago, some 107 people have been breathalysed in Dumfries and Galloway. Of those tested, four have been found to be over the legal limit for driving and now face the full force of the justice system, which includes an automatic driving ban, a criminal record, a fine of up to £5000 and the possibility in some cases of a prison sentence.

Inspector Neil Hewitson of the Division’s Road Policing Unit said: “Already, sadly in this campaign we have detected four drivers who have chosen to ignore all the warnings that have gone out about this type of behaviour. Our patrols will continue to target those who choose to drink and drive and will deal with them as we deal with any criminal.”
