10 cleared of sectarianism

THE trial of 10 people from Newton Stewart, Minnigaff and Ringford charged with singing sectarian chants in Victoria Street, Newton Stewart, on April 24 last year ended last week with nine of them acquitted and one found not guilty.

Richard Lowrie, 20, Gina McClure, 30, Shelley McKnight, 24, Douglas McLaren, 19, Fiona Rudd, 20, and Graham Thom, 19, all from Newton Stewart along with Gordon McClymont, 20, and Ryan McKie, 21, from Minnigaff, and Simon Johnston, 20, from Ringford were all acquitted as they had no case to answer.

Nineteen-year-old James Scott, from The Gables, Creebridge, was found not guilty.
