Eleven-year-old Port William Primay School pupil Zoe Oxley, was thrilled to be an RBS 6 Nations Rugby Championship Mascot last weekend at Murrayfield.
Zoe, from Druchtag, Mochrum, was given a rugby shirt, hoodie and tracksuit trousers, plus the best seats in the house in the West stand beside the players. She had the privilege of running onto the pitch with the Scotland team and stood proud lined up in front of them to sing the national anthem. Best of all - her favourite player, Richie Gray, was standing behind her!
Accompanied by her mum and dad, she then got to meet the players after the match who all signed her rugby ball. A few selfies were taken as souvenirs.
Her brother, Alan was also fortunate enough to have been chosen in November 2009 to mascot at the Scotland
v Argentina, Autumn International. Scotland however, was not as lucky that day and lost.
To have two children chosen from a national competition, in the same village, let alone the same family is surely a ‘chance in a lifetime’ coincidence.
Scotland played France in the 4th round and won, 29-18.
