Last Saturday a service conducted by the Rev. Alex Currie on behalf of Whithorn and District Community Councilwas held in the town to commemorate VJ Day and the ending of the Second World War.
Two minutes silence was held, as the busy silage season was halted to mark the historic moment when war ended. Residents and visitors attended the service, during which readings were given by Margerie Clark and Charles Orr Ewing, and Kirsty Currie explained the background to the ending of the campaign in the Far East.
Ex-service personnel and service family members attended the moving service.
