The ‘Victory for Violet’ sponsored cycle in July to raise money for the charity Alzheimer Scotland rasied a whopping £1800.
On Monday evening the cycle organisers gathered outside the Galloway Bar in Wigtown to remember Alzheimers sufferer Violet McQuaker and hand over the magnificent cheque to representatives of Alzheimer Scotland.
The idea for the fundrasing cycle came from Voilet’s daughter Anne Heron.
On Monday evening she said: “My mum Violet had Alzheimers so this ‘Victory for Violet’ fundraiser was for her. Alzheimers was the only battle mum didn’t win. It’s three years today since mum passed. She also worked here at the Galloway Bar.
“A magnificent £1800 was raised for Alzheimers’ Society Daycare at Ashgrove Court. A big thank you to Anne Barclay for all her help.”
Fourteen cyclists took to the saddle to cycle 16.5 miles from Wigtown to Carty, Mochrum Park and returning to Wigtown, whilst five walkers strode 10 miles from Wigtown to Carty and back.
