Machars school children showed their artistic skill once again in this year’s Wigtown Show art competition.
They were asked to design a postcard promoting the show, which takes place on Wednesday 5th August. Wigtown Agricultural Society’s chairman and vice had an incredibly difficult job choosing the winners from the dozens of entries from Creetown, Kirkinner, Kirkcowan, Minnigaff, Penninghame, Port William and St Ninian’s schools.
The p1-3 section was won by Alister from Creetown School, 2nd - Oliver (Port William), 3rd - Tessa (Port William).
In the primary 4-5 group, the winner was Kelsey from Port William School, 2nd - Bethany (Port William), 3rd – Lucja (St Ninians).
Zak from Kirkinner School won the p6-7 section, 2nd – Anna (Port William), 3rd – Abby (Port William)
Older children were invited to write a poem to promote the show on the reverse side of their postcard. Penninghame pupils had a shot at this and Niamh’s was judged to be the best.
Wigtown Show secretary Helen McColm said: “Well done to all the children who took part in the competition and thank you to the staff for managing to fit it into a very busy school term. We hope the winners enjoy their day out at Wigtown Show where all the entries will be able to be viewed at a table in the Craft & Lifestyle marquee.”
