Last weekend, at West Lothian College, Livingston, Laura Brown, who is a pupil at the Douglas Ewart High School, competed in and won the Rotary District 1020 district finals of the Young Chef Competition.
For the competition, every participant had to prepare and present a three-course meal within three hours at a cost of less than £15.
During the preparation all competitors were under the watchful eye of the two chefs who judged them on their culinary skills and expertise. Not only did the competitors have to cook and prepare the meal they also had to prepare and decorate the place settings.
As well as delivering the order of merit, the judges commented that skills used during the preparation were of a standard which would not have been attempted by many professional chefs.
Hanving won this district final, Laura now goes forward to the next level which draws competitors from all of Scotland and the North of England. This takes place in Dundee on March 7.
