Portpatrick and Park Primary School pupils recently celebrated the Queen’s 90th birthday with a region-wide themed lunch.
Some schools ventured out of doors for a ‘street party’ style event, while others decorated their dining halls. Pupils were encouraged to make crowns to wear during lunch.
The Queen attended many of the events (cardboard cutout) while dino diner Wee Dee Gee put in a personal appearance.
The Council’s DGFirst took pre-orders for themed meals, with The Royal Cupcake being the most popular choice.
Councillor Jeff Leaver, chairman of the Education Committee, said: “Providing the best start in life for all our children is a priority for our Council. This themed lunch initiative is a good example of us offering a nutritious meal as part of a social communal celebration. Feedback from pupils and staff has been very positive.”
