At the recent annual general meeting of Port William Community Council Mrs Jan Freeman has stepped down as chairperson of the Council and her report was read out by the secretary.
After the election of office bearers Mrs Anne Highman becomes the chairperson, Mr Peter Smellie is vice-chairman, the
treasurer continues to be Mr Jim Gray and the secretary Mrs Jenni Gray.
In the business meeting after the AGM, community benefit was discusses. Peter Smellie gave a presentation to the meeting, in which he defined the types of organisations which could apply for funds, the types of projects which would be considered for funding and he confirmed that the awards of funds was the responsibility of Port William and District Community Council. The timetable for the current year is that applications are to be submitted to the community council by the end of June, the awards will be decided at the July community council meeting, and then submitted to Foundation Scotland by the end of August. The benefit money is paid to the community council during November.
Representatives from two organisations who are considering making an application for funds were present at the meeting, and they gave an overview of the type of project that they would be promoting.
Police Report- two officers were present and they confirmed that they are working with DGHP in attempting to resolve unsocial behaviour incidents in the area.
Post Code lottery- it was reported that letters were again circulating and the officers confirmed that this type of approach is a scam, and that the letters should be ignored.
