Last Thursday the Monreith and District Action Group (MADAG) received a cheque from the Tesco Community Awards scheme for £650
The donation will make a really positive impact on the local community, helping to fund new sports equipment and goalposts in the village.
MADAG, which has been running since 1994, is a key part of the local community in Monreith, they are currently undertaking their most ambitious project to date: the much needed overhaul of the village play area. Their aim is to update the existing play equipment and also provide a seating/picnic area for families and the elderly residents of the village.
MADAG Chairman Ted Norfolk said: “As a very small village community it is difficult for us to raise sufficient funds to carry out the work that we do.
“The Tesco Award is greatly appreciated and will assist us in the purchase of essential equipment needed for the planned upgrade of our village community and play area.”
Hazel Cloy, Store Manager at the Tesco Stranraer store added: “We’re committed to giving back to local communities and our Community Awards give us a brilliant opportunity to support local good causes. I am delighted that we are supporting MADAG, it is a fantastic organisation doing brilliant work in Monreith and I’m delighted we are able to help them in this way.”
The Tesco Charity Trust Community Awards provides one-off donations of between £500 and £2,500 to registered charities and not for profit organisations. For more information see www.tescoplc.com/tescocharitytrust.
