Local bike shop is going places

Kirkcowan Cycles a local bike shop based in Newton Stewart has been short listed as one of 20 best small shops in the entire UK. The Independent Retailers Confederation run the annual competition and the overall winner will be announced later this month at a reception at the Houses of Parliament.

Kirkcowan Cycles was set up by local couple Brian Ferguson and Sarah-Jane Coleby, inspired by their shared love of cycling. It originally started as a repair business ran from a converted shed. Over the last five years the business has grown steadily and last year they moved to a brand new shop in Victoria Lane, Newton Stewart.

Brian said: “This has been an amazing six months. The new shop was a great move, to make it onto the short list is really the icing on the cake. We’ve been inundated with messages from well wishers, as fantastic as being short listed for this award is it’s our customers that matter the most, we wouldn’t be here without them.”

Brian and Sarah-Jane will find out if they are the overall winner at a reception in the Houses of Parliament on the 25th February. You can follow their progress on their website www.kirkcowancycles.co.uk, the IRC website www.bestsmallshops.uk or Kircowan Cycles Facebook page.
