Former Port William man Jim Mihulka was celebrating last week after winning the British begonia title at Ayr Flower Show - something it has taken him 20 years to achieve.
Sixty-six year old Jim, who now lives at Redpath in the Scottish Borders, won three cups at the famous annual horticultural show, including the Lynn Cup and the Jimmy Roberts Cup, awarded to the British Begonia Champion for a 12-bloom board. He also scooped the Baillie William Cowan JP Cup for the best exhibit in show.
Jim said: “It has taken me 20 years to get that! This is only the second time the British Begonia Champion Cups have been awarded to the Borders, the first time was in 1986.
“I have fond memories of growing up in Port William. I left the village when I was 18 to join up but I come back to see family and friends there when I come over for the sea angling.”
