Galloway’s Food Train charity has issued a seasonal plea for volunteers to come forward and help local older people in the Stewartry and Wigtownshire areas.
The Food Train is looking for volunteer shoppers, van and minibus drivers, befrienders and grocery delivery helpers.
The award-winning local charity wants to hear from anyone interested in helping with their services which support over 65s to stay living independently in their own homes.
Food Train’s Dumfries and Galloway Regional Manager, Helen McAnespie, said: “We have teams of wonderful volunteers from all walks of life but due to the demand for our services we are presently looking to recruit more helpers. “Perhaps you have spare time and have made a New Year resolution to help out in your community more; if so we would love to hear from you. We have a variety of volunteering roles available from helping with supermarket shopping, to delivering our customers’ grocery orders to being a volunteer befriender to help alleviate loneliness. We are looking for volunteers of all ages and abilities and would welcome enquiries from anyone interested in giving their time to help older people.”
