The Gatehouse Music Society season opened with an eagerly awaited return visit from the acclaimed percussion ensemble O Duo.
Oliver Cox and Owen Gunnell displayed their “phenomenal artistry” (Daily Telegraph) to enthralled audiences at the concert and during a workshop with the children at Gatehouse Primary School. The concert programme involved the use of their marimbas and the full range of usual and unusual percussion culminating in ‘Signals from Space’ a recent composition by Oliver. Their arrangement of Chopin’s Minute Waltz was a fitting and exciting encore.
The Maxwell String Quartet, Colin Scobie leader, and George Smith violins, Elliott Perks viola, and Duncan Strachan cello, will be the artists at their next concert. The Quartet was formed in 2010 while the players were students at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and where they won the major chamber music prizes. Hailed as “one of the front runners” in UK ensembles (Classical Music Magazine) the Quartet is currently with the Park Lane Group artists, Tunnell Trust artists and is quartet in residence at St Anne’s College Oxford.
The Society look forward to enjoying their programme which includes Mendelssohn’s Quartet No 5 44/3 and the Schubert Quartet No 15 in D major D 887.
Do come and join them at the concert which will take place on Thursday, December 3 at 7.30pm in Gatehouse Parish Church.
Tickets on sale at the door and students and school children have free entry.
