Galloway Thistle is to host a charity night at Douglas Ewart High School on Saturday June 4 from 8pm-2am.
This is the club’s eighth and so far it has raised nearly £50,000 for many causes including local Yorkihill sick kids, MacMillan Nurses, Help for Heroes, Alzheimers Scotland, MS Scotland and many more causes.
Last year’s main beneficiary was wee Jamie Cooksley from Wigtown who as a toddler is fighting Leukaemia.
The club built a garden surprise for him consisting of a playhouse, huge sand pit, football goals and a family decking area with full seating and BBQ.
This year the club has already sorted fencing for a wee Newton Stewart boy who has Autism and cannot understand danger. We have also sent a terminally ill Stranraer man on a VIP day out to see his heroes Rangers lift the title with his wife and kids.
This year’s other beneficiaries are Stranraer man Neil Dougan who is confined to a wheelchair and currently struggling with communication, so we aim to help towards some sort of help with talking to his wonderful parents who battle on without much help.
The main cause this year is young Noah Rudd a Newton Stewart toddler whose Dad Marcus sadly passed away in his sleep late last year aged only 21. We hope to send Noah to Lapland to see Father Xmas.
Further help will be given to two local boys who are members of the team for the special Olympics next year.
The night will be a Dirty Dancing/Grease night as one of two live acts, the other being a 70/80s Rewind act Kris Mackenzie. On the night there is a 30-minute quickfire auction and also a silent auction.
Prizes include loads of signed shirts from all over Europe including Leicester, Man Utd, Spurs, Chelsea Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen. There is also a custom made signed cue from four-times World Champ John Higgins and a signed Guitar from Scotland’s Amy MacDonald. There will holiday breaks also up in the silent auction.
Folks can check the facebook page where there is also a £5 raffle for a behind the scenes visit to the set of River City where the winners gets to meet the stars and also get a street sign which is signed by the full cast.
