The new PIRSAC III lifeboat, based in Port William, got its first callout last week since coming into operation.
It was a momentous moment for the volunteer crew as it was also their 250th service call.
A PIRSAC spokesperson said: “PIRSAC crew members were tasked to service by Belfast Coastguard, to reports of a vessel on fire three miles East of Burrowhead. The new lifeboat, PIRSAC III was launched with three crew on board and proceeded to the casualties location.
“Kirkcudbright Lifeboat was also tasked. They were on scene and extinguished the fire before PIRSAC arrived. They stood down and returned to station to refuel, wash and make ready for service. This was their 250th service call for PIRSAC and the first service call for PIRSAC III.
!The new Senior Coastal Operations Officer for Solway, Stewart Bryden also visited on the same day. He had the pleasure of watching the crew in action and was able to advise during the callout.”
