The Royal Burgh of Wigtown and District Community Council, together with Dumfries and Galloway Council will be consulting residents, family members, interested parties and all members of the local community on their preferred location within Wigtown for the Louis McGuffie VC Commemorative paving stone.
Nick Walker, community council convenor, said: “Wigtown County Buildings will have a display showing suggested locations and information on why the three options have been chosen. The Community Council is asking that you complete a voting slip (available at Wigtown County Buildings) by February 20.
“A public meeting will be held at Wigtown County Buildings on Monday, January 26, at 7.30pm and I would encourage all of you to attend. You will receive more detailed information on Louis McGuffie, what we have done so far in planning his VC commemoration, and Wolrd War I commemoration across Dumfries and Galloway as a whole. We would welcome your suggestions on how we should proceed locally in Wigtown.
“Louis McGuffie was awarded the VC in late September 1918, so the final commenorative event will take place at the centenary, before the Wigtown Book Festival in September 2018.”
