Carlingwark House, a Castle Douglas care home, were finalists in three categories at Scottish Care’s 2016 Care Home Awards. Carlingwark was recognised for the dedication of its management team, as well as the creativity of the activity programme it delivers. Shirley McTeir was a finalist for the Manager of the Year Award and Mandy Kennedy was commended by Scottish Care.
This year, she introduced innovative internet sessions and involved residents in creating stunning sensory gardens.
Shirley McTeir said: “I feel totally humbled, proud and privileged. For me, being a part of the lives of people we support is such a privilege. I am so thankful to work with such a passionate and dedicated team. Being recognised at the Care Home Awards is amazing!”
Mandy Kennedy, Activities Coordinator for Carlingwark, said: “It’s such a privilege to be nominated for something like this. It’s a job that I love doing, helping people we support to lead full and active lives. I’d like to thank the team, families and people we support, who have all helped develop our activity programmes with me. Being recognised at these awards is the cherry on the cake!”
