The countdown is on as excitement builds ahead of one of Scotland’s premier country fairs.
The Galloway Country Fair – the largest event of its kind in southern Scotland – is taking place on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 August. And with just days to go until the big weekend, visitors are being urged not to miss out on what has been dubbed the ‘biggest and best’ event in its 14 year history.
Held at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate the show is expected to welcome more than 200 quality exhibitors and entertainers across the two days with an impressive host of new entertainers including Grant Bazin’s Horse Whisperer and a special guest appearance from three-times World Spey Casting Champion, Gordon Armstrong.
Visitors to the popular country event – which clinched ‘Best Traditional Event’ at the 2015 Scottish Event Awards – can browse stalls showcasing the best that Scotland has to offer.
The Fair’s arena shows are guaranteed to entertain with Bob Hogg’s out of the ordinary sheepdog display that may even include sheep, geese ducks and even a chicken! Also making an appearance is the Lamb National – one of the most popular arena acts in the UK – which sees a flock of Herdwick sheep negotiate the race track in their own colours and overcome natural obstacles in an incredibly fun and entertaining show.
Ever popular favourites which include gundog displays and a scurry provided by Galloway Gundogs as well as team work horse logging and a stunning falconry display from Elite Falconry who will showcase an owl, hawk falcon, and eagle in action, will also take to the arena throughout the weekend.
Fantastic food and drink stalls, country sports, fabulous entertainment, rural crafts and a zone featuring a host of free children’s activities will ensure an ideal weekend for all the family.
The grand Food & Craft Marquee will be back this year filled with a variety of fresh produce including quality meats, cheese and much more to suit all tastes. A wide range of handmade gifts, homeware, jewellery and artwork will also be on offer for those looking to pick up a bespoke memento from the craft selection. The hugely popular Buccleuch Bake Off competition will also return for its second year.
Anna Fergusson, Visitor Services Manager at Drumlanrig Castle and Country Estate, said: “We are excited to begin the final countdown to our 2016 fair and can’t wait to welcome visitors and locals alike this summer.
“We are so proud of the activities, events and produce we have on offer this year and are confident there will be something for everyone to enjoy at this great family day out.”
Border Cars is once again headline sponsor of the show and Poppyscotland has been announced as the official charity partner with 20 per cent of proceeds from the GCF programme being donated to the charity as well as opportunities to fund raise and increase awareness across the weekend.
