Openreach to upgrade thousands more Dumfries and Galloway homes to Full Fibre broadband
Openreach plans to provide Full Fibre broadband to around 30,000 more homes and businesses in Dumfries and Galloway.
Eighteen exchange areas in the region will be upgraded including Castle Douglas, Stranraer, Kirkcudbright, Newton Stewart, Creetown, Wigtown and Dalbeattie.
It means fewer homes and businesses will require taxpayer subsidies to upgrade, as Openreach’s parent company BT seek to provide better broadband to the UK’s hardest-to-serve communities.
Economy Secretary Kate Forbes said: “The rollout of ultrafast broadband to so many more rural communities is vitally important, especially as we focus on recovering from the pandemic.”
