Shane Steenson, from the South Port O’Spittal Farm in Stranraer, studied electronic and electrical engineering at the University of Strathclyde, graduating in 2007. He then gained City and Guilds level 3 certificates in electrical installation and inspection of testing and certification of electrical installation. In 2011, he joined the Council’s DGFirst as an apprentice. He was runner-up in the UK and Scottish Apprentice of the Year competitions in 2013.

Councillor Archie Dryburgh, chairman of the DGFirst Management Committee, said, “Building the local economy is our Council’s number one priority. It is, therefore, essential that we continue to develop apprentices to the highest possible standard. Congratulations to Shane on being runner-up position in the APSE Apprentice of the Year competition. This achievement reflects very positively on Shane and shows the standard of apprentice recruited by the Council and the quality of the training that we provide.”
