In case you don’t have a calendar, this Friday is April 1.

So, when you’re reading the newspaper and browsing the web, be sure to keep a sceptical eye on the headlines, lest some media wag convince you that Polo Mints are no longer going to be produced with holes, or that Donald Trump is running for president.

Journalists and media teams across the land spend literally minutes sweating over their keyboards each year to come up with spoof stories for your reading pleasure.

Do you remember any of these from 2015?

Samsung ‘released’ the Galaxy Blade, the world’s first Smartknife – Tech giant Samsung’s media team, perhaps poking fun at their development arm’s never-ending quest to make their phones thinner, announced the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Blade Edge. Billing it as the ultimate cooking companion, the spoof device was to run on the latest OS and was sharp enough to render every knife in your kitchen obsolete.

Microsoft launches MS-DOS as a mobile phone OS – In a April 1 blog post, Microsoft announced the launch of MS-DOS mobile which promised to delight older users with the return of the C:\ DOS prompt.

Ant and Dec and Anton Du Beke – The Radio Times announced that Ant and Dec were going to introduce a fresh dynamic into their well-practiced double act by bringing in a third co-presenter. Anton Du Beke’s arrival would mean Saturday Night Takeaway with Ant and Dec would become Saturday Night Takeaway with Ant and Dec and Anton Du Beke. Just don’t ask us to say that out loud.

Hippo Cafe to open in London – The Metro announced that a Cafe was set to open in London which would allow patrons to pet pygmy hippos.

Simon Cowell, David Beckham and Helen Mirren on banknotes – Never ones to miss out on the fun, The Sun reported that the new bank of England Banknotes were going to ditch the Queen in favour of Simon Cowell (£5), David Beckham (£10) and Dame Helen Mirren (£20).

If those failed to raise a chuckle fear not, no doubt there will be a fresh batch this year.

Keep your eyes peeled and don’t forget to snap any good ones you see on your Smartknife and share them to our Facebook page.
