Dumfries and Galloway Council’s Policy and Resources Committee agreed at its meeting on Thursday 15 September to allocate a further £199,000 from the Council’s capital budget to provide additional funding for the Kirkcudbright Art Gallery project, taken the Council’s contribution to the project to just over £1.89m.

Alongside funds from the National Lottery, the Heritage Lottery Fund is supporting the transformation of the town hall into a contemporary art gallery showcasing and celebrating the unique heritage of Kirkcudbright Artists’ Town with funding of £1.23m, resulting in a total investment of over £3.12m.

The Gallery is estimated to bring in up to 40,000 visitors per year to the town.

The revamped building plans to host a café, open space area for communities to utilise and a mezzanine floor to increase capacity.
