Two young golfers from Portpatrick are really setting the heather alight.
Little Harry Lockwood – who is just seven years old – competed in the National Wee Wonders finals at St Andrews recently, where he played fantastically well.
The youngster scored 40, 44 and 50 over a par-30 course but said he was disappointed with his final round.
Portpatrick Dunskey pro James Erskine, however, was quick to heap praise on Harry. He said: “I personally thought Harry was outstanding with the scoring for his age. He certainly gave a great account of himself.
“The highlight of his event was getting up and down from a bunker five times the height of him on the last hole!”
Harry is already preparing himself for next year’s European Championship.
Also making headlines for his golf at a tender age is 15-year-old Matthew McCulloch.
He has been selected to represent the Scottish schools golf team later this month at West Kilbride Golf Club.
This tops off a fantastic season in which he has represented Scotland at under-16 level.
Said James: “Matthew has competed consistently in Scottish Golf Union events at junior level and currently lies second in the South of Scotland gents order of merit and also equalled the Dunskey course record of 63.”
